In the Rowan 2 the ImpactWaffle technology has been moved further into the forefoot of the shoe to add even more impact protection without affecting boardfeel, while a 98% recycled VR3 Cush insole adds even greater comfort. For durability they rely heavily on Vans Duracap rubber reinforcements which has been exposed slightly on the Rowan 2 so you can see where that added protection is.

Lastly Vans SickStick gum rubber compound takes care of grip and durability, it is uniquely calibrated into the sole to ensure enhanced grip and board feel.
