A rare mid-century hand-made wall plaque by Helmut Friedrich Schäffenacker depicting a double-face décor usually known as "Sun and Moon." It is complete with the Schäffenacker studio mark on the back and the engraved "Sch" signature on the front bottom left corner.

HELMUT FRIEDRICH SCHÄFFENACKER (1921–2010) was a prolific German ceramic artist, recognized for his use of both innovative and traditional techniques in ceramic artistry and justifiably known as a "master of plaques." His creations display the full spectrum of motifs, from realistic to abstract styles. In addition to ceramics, he also worked in other mediums, producing paintings, prints, and sculpture—the last in a wide variety of materials, notably stainless steel, bronze, stone, and wood. He decorated numerous buildings, commercial and public, with wall reliefs, and he designed fountains and sculptures for many public spaces. His ceramic designs heavily influenced the aesthetics of West German ceramic production from the '50s well into the '70s.

Schäffenacker was born in 1921, in the southern German city of Ulm, the son of noted painter Otto Schäffenacker (1888–1964). He completed a commercial apprenticeship in 1935, and employment followed. In 1940 he was drafted into the Waffen SS, the combat branch of the Nazi Party's notorious paramilitary Schutzstaffel (SS), where he was trained as a medic and driver. He would remain in medical service until the end of WWII. He began to work as a ceramist in 1948.

The next year Schäffenacker completed an apprenticeship with the sculptor and medalist Rudolf Pauschinger (1882–1957) in Stuttgart. After further study of art and subsequent training as both a painter and a sculptor, he founded his Ulm studio, "Atelier Schäffenacker," in the early 1950s. His first designs were everyday objects such as vases, ashtrays, and bowls. By the middle of the decade, wall panels with relief decorations emerged, primarily with figurative motifs. Most depicted still lives and highly stylized animals—including horses, owls, and fish. His sculptures also often took on animal forms. Eventually, his utilitarian objects developed more and more into sculptural pieces, and the motifs of the wall panels became increasingly abstract.

Initially, Schäffenacker sold most of his work locally and regionally, but by the mid-'50s, he was participating in the Frankfurt trade fairs, and his work began to show up in retail outlets in various cities throughout Germany and in neighboring countries. Having heretofore sculpted in stone, clay, wood, and bronze, using traditional techniques, he began to experiment with stainless steel, aluminum, copper plate, iron, synthetic resin, and polyester—the industrial materials of the modern world.

In 1960, Schäffenacker moved his workshop and family to the district of Böfingen in Ulm. There, he worked with three kilns and sometimes as many as ten employees. All works were either unique or cast in small series of up to a hundred pieces from plaster negatives or with hollow plaster molds and finished by hand. His wall reliefs and plaques were executed almost exclusively using the "bridge technique," which prevents glazes from running together during the firing process. It amounts to stamping a tile of soft clay with a mold to create patterns in relief. The ridges left by the stamp create separate compartments that are then filled with differently colored glazes. Wall panels and plaques would usually stay in the program for two or three years.

Schäffenacker has received numerous national and international awards for his work. On the occasion of the artist's 85th birthday, Prof. Dr. Justus Engelfried wrote: "The individual objects are outstanding works of German and international ceramic design (e.g., the vase objects). The variety and number of wall panels are unique in Germany. The entire ceramic work of the designer and artist Schäffenacker is probably even unparalleled worldwide."

The artist ended ceramics production in 1993 when he had the kilns of his Ulm studio dismantled. However, he continued to work in other media well into the following decade. Helmut Schäffenacker died in 2010, at the age of 89.

IDENTIFICATION: Through the 1950s, Schäffenacker worked predominantly with white clay; later, he formed his vases and bowls almost exclusively in red clay. The wall ceramics are usually embossed on the back: "Schäffenacker, Ulm/do., Made in Germany, handgeformt (hand-molded)". Vases, bowls, etc., are sometimes similarly stamped but are always provided with a model number. Adhesive labels were also sometimes attached to the ceramics, in the 1950s with "Atelier Schäffenacker," later with the abbreviated "Sch" in black on a gold background. ("Ulm/Do." signifies Ulm an der Donau [the city of Ulm at the river Donau—i.e., the Danube.])

Smart, powerful, and genuinely makes daily life easier
Color: Black, Size: L40 Ultra Gen 2
I bought this robot vacuum recently and have been using it for several days now. So far, I’m really impressed. It is smart, powerful, and very convenient for daily cleaning. The biggest highlight for me is how well it avoids obstacles. It can recognize and move around things in the house automatically, so I don’t have to constantly watch it or move everything out of the way before starting a cleaning session. That makes it feel much more worry-free compared with other cleaning tools. The suction power is also very strong. For everyday floor cleaning, I honestly feel like it does an excellent job, even compared with my Dyson handheld vacuum. It picks up dust and debris well, and the cleaning result has been very satisfying. Another feature I really appreciate is the scheduling. I can set it to clean automatically every day, and it just takes care of the floors by itself. This has saved a lot of time and effort for both me and my wife. After using it, I feel like a good robot vacuum is almost as important as a dishwasher. It reduces a lot of daily housework and gives us more time to focus on work, hobbies, entertainment, and family life. It has quickly become a useful companion in our home. I have only used it for several days, so I can’t speak to long-term durability yet, but my first impression is very positive. If you are looking for a smart, powerful, and hands-free cleaning helper, I would definitely recommend this robot vacuum.

Very thorough and efficient cleaning
Color: Black, Size: L40 Ultra Gen 2
I've been using Roomba vacuums and mops for about fifteen years now, and truly loved them. My Braava mop recently wasn't working well, so I started researching again for the best robot mop. Anytime I've done that before, it was always a Roomba product that seemed to be rated best, but this time it was this Dreame dual vacuum and mop - I hadn't even heard of Dreame. Based on reviews and price, I decided to go for it. I am LOVING this machine! It cleans significantly more thoroughly AND faster than any Roomba I've had. My main floor is probably around 1500sq. ft. My previous Roomba took about 6 hours cleaning it. The Dreame takes just over 2 hours, and results in a noticeably cleaner floor. I have a lady that comes and cleans part of my house once a month, and she thought I must have done an extra intensive clean of my floors for an event. I hadn't told her anything about the new machine, but she noticed a significant difference in the cleanliness of my floors. It's great with picking up dog hair that is everywhere in my house. It has a strong suction for rugs - the door mats used to still have dust that I could shake out after Roomba went over them, not anymore. And I used to have to get down and scrub the area around my dog's food and water dishes because Roomba couldn't mop up that mess. I haven't had to do that in the two months or so since I've had Dreame. I thought it was really strange that it didn't come with the container for the cleaning solution, but thought I'd try it for awhile just with water. So far, I haven't found a reason to pay extra for that container or the solution! Water alone is doing a thorough job! The timer feature works very well, and I appreciate that it sends me a text notice when a particular part needs cleaning or adjustment or whatever. And it includes a link to show where that part is and what to actually do. The communication of the maintenance of the machine has been very good so far. I used to have Roomba run daily, but I have Dreame just running three days a week, and I have cleaner floors! It DOES talk loudly, such as, "Cleaning mop pads." But you can time it to run when the talking won't bother you. Overall, it's a good bit quieter than my Roomba. It gets louder when it's vacuuming rugs, but most of my floor is hard wood or tile, so it's mainly relatively quiet. The two aspects that were better with Roomba were that Roomba fit under my couches to clean (this is too tall), and it was significantly easier to clean hair out of the omnidirectional wheel and brushes of Roomba. I paid $550 for this, and it has been WELL worth the money!

Very Easy Warranty Claim Process!!
I have purchased a lot of Asurion warranties for products on Amazon over the past 5 years. This is the first time I've had to use the warranty. The Tineco vacuum mop that I purchased wasn't working well at all. I looked online to see how to file a warranty claim with Asurion. I had purchased the top line Tineco almost 3 years ago and my warranty was for 3 years. I was concerned that there might be an issue due to the amount and/or because the warranty was getting close to the end of the warranty period (3 years). Filing the claim was all online and walked you through all of the steps - very easy to follow and understand. They emailed a shipping label to me (they paid for shipping) and sent the Tineco to them. I figured it would be a lengthy and difficult process. After they received everything, they promptly denied the claim and closed the it. They said my personal information didn't match. I called them and discovered that since I was using a different email address, they couldn't match it up. The customer service agent changed the information and refiled the claim for me. I received another shipping label and used it to ship the Tineco back to them. They notified me when they received the Tineco and told me they would let me know after the repair department had looked at it. I received notification within a few hours that they could not fix it and would issue an Amazon Gift Card for the price that I paid for the Tineco (no tax included, of course). The Gift Card was in my account within a few hours! That had to be the easiest warranty claim I've ever made! I highly recommend Asurion for their warranties. The only thing I would suggest is that they change the warranty documentation to make it clear that they need the email address you filed the claim under and give you a place to put your new email address, if it has changed. I will not hesitate to continue to purchase Asurion warranties for products on Amazon! I like the idea of the monthly claim amount that is available for $16.99 per month, but you would have to buy a lot of products and warranty them for that to be equitable. I did the math and realized that I would have to purchase warranties for products that total $2,039 - $4,078 per year, every year (based on the charge of 10%-15% per warranty) to equal what I would pay for the individual warranties. I don't buy that many products that need warranties though, so it's not a value for me at all. IF I purchased the monthly warranty ($16.99 per month) and later decided that I didn't want to continue to pay that amount, none of my products would be warrantied! So, I had to really think about it first. I couldn't justify the monthly charge forever for the amount of products I purchase that can be warrantied. } Asurion - please consider offering the same warranty at a lower price per month - maybe you could put a cap on the dollar amount allowed to make it feasible for everyone. I would be very interested if the price wasn't so much.

Well, worth it
Well worth it my robot vacuum stopped working properly. It would not find it’s station and would wonder until the battery died. I was able to get a refund and buy a replacement.
