De bloemen verschijnen gelijktijdig met het jonge, viltige blad. Na de bloei verschijnen er in zeldzame gevallen kleine, peervormige vruchten aan de boom. Deze vruchten zijn groen met een rode blos en ongeveer 2 tot 4 cm groot. Hoewel ze niet eetbaar zijn voor mensen vanwege hun harde en bittere smaak, werden ze al snel populair bij vogels die zich tegoed deden aan de pitjes. Het loof is groen van kleur en ovaal van vorm. De Treursierpeer kan een volwassen hoogte van 5 tot 6 meter bereiken. De ‘Pendula’ gedijt het best op een zonnige standplaats met goed doorlatende, kalkrijke bodem. Snoeien is minimaal nodig. Af en toe dode of zieke takken verwijderd om de boom gezond te houden. Als de boom te groot wordt kan hij in de wintermaanden gesnoeid worden om zijn elegante vorm te behouden.
