Bloemen Portugese laurier - Prunus lusitanica 'Brenelia'

Deze wintergroene Portugese laurier Brenelia leiboom bloeit in mei in juni met trosvormige witte bloemen. Na de bloei verschijnen er paarsrode (niet eetbare) besjes. Pas op met honden en kleine kinderen met deze giftige besjes. 

De frisgroene bladeren, aan opvallende paarsrode takjes, zijn langwerpig, golvend en blijven het hele jaar groen. De bladeren groeien dicht op elkaar, waardoor de boom ook geschikt is als (zichtdichte) haagplant.

Aanplanten en standplaats

Deze leivormige Portugese laurier Prunus lusitanica 'Brenelia' houdt van een zonnige of halfschaduw standplaats. Zorg voor een vochtige en goed doorlaatbare grond. Deze wintergroene leiboom laat zich makkelijk snoeien en is daarom ook buitengewoon geschikt voor de wat kleinere tuin. Ondanks dat de boom winterhard is, heeft een beschutte plek de voorkeur.
