Fargo HDP5000: High-Definition Single-Sided Desktop ID Card Printer

Meet the Fargo HDP5000, a compact desktop dye sublimation and thermal transfer printer engineered for professional ID card issuance with unparalleled clarity and reliability. Built around High Definition Printing (HDP) technology, this single-sided printer delivers photo-quality color on CR80 ID cards, even when those cards include embedded electronics or advanced overlays. The HDP5000 uses a retransfer process that prints onto a clear film before bonding it to the card, resulting in crisp text, natural skin tones, and exceptionally sharp portraits with edge-to-edge coverage. Designed for everyday badge issuance—employee IDs, visitor passes, membership cards, and access credentials—the HDP5000 combines superb image quality with durable, secure cards and straightforward operation for busy front desks and security teams. With flexible encoding options, a robust build, and network-ready connectivity, this Fargo printer fits seamlessly into modern security workflows and IT ecosystems while keeping ongoing costs competitive. Whether you’re launching a new ID program or upgrading an aging print solution, the HDP5000 provides the image quality, reliability, and security features you need to issue high-quality cards quickly and consistently.

  • High Definition Printing (HDP) technology for vibrant, edge‑to‑edge color on standard CR80 cards. The HDP process deposits color on a special transfer film and then bonds it to the card, delivering photo‑quality images with smooth gradients, crisp text, and precise color reproduction. This approach shines on complex portraits, microtext, and fine details, while maintaining consistency across batches and minimizing print defects on cards with embedded electronics or specialty coatings.
  • Single‑sided desktop design built for reliability and ease of use. The HDP5000 occupies a compact footprint on a desk, yet it’s built to handle regular badge issuance. Its robust feed mechanism, straightforward ribbon and film handling, and simple cleaning routines help reduce downtime. With durable components and proven performance, it’s an ideal choice for small to mid‑size organizations that value professional results without sacrificing space or budget.
  • Flexible encoding options for secure, encoded cards in one pass. Optional encoders support magnetic stripe, contact smart cards, and contactless smart cards, enabling you to issue secure, printable IDs that integrate with access control systems and attendance tracking. By encoding during the print cycle, you minimize handling steps and accelerate badge issuance while maintaining high security standards for your ID program.
  • Connectivity and software compatibility for smooth integration. The HDP5000 offers USB and Ethernet connectivity, making it easy to print directly from a computer or share the printer across a network. It works with widely used card design and encoding software such as HID CardStudio and IDEIDWorks, and it comes with Windows drivers that simplify installation and ongoing operations. This makes it straightforward to deploy in classrooms, offices, security desks, or IT managed environments.
  • Economical printing with durable overlays and long‑lasting cards. The HDP5000 is designed to maximize per‑card durability through resin-based color and optional clear overlaminate or overlay options. Durable cards resist everyday wear, fading, and abrasions, which helps reduce reprints and replacement costs over time. The result is a cost‑effective badge solution that delivers reliable performance for day‑to‑day card issuance and long‑term security needs.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What is HDP (High Definition Printing) and why does it matter? A: HDP is a retransfer printing process that produces high‑quality, edge‑to‑edge color with smooth gradients and accurate portraits. It prints color onto a transfer film first and then bonds it to the card, resulting in better image fidelity and durability, especially on cards with embedded electronics or coatings.
  • Q: Is the Fargo HDP5000 a single‑sided or dual‑sided printer? A: The Fargo HDP5000 is a single‑sided desktop printer. If you require dual‑sided cards, you can design a workflow that prints the front side with the HDP5000 and produce a second pass for the back, or consider a dual‑sided model in Fargo’s lineup for seamless duplex printing.
  • Q: Can I encode data on the cards during printing? A: Yes. The HDP5000 offers optional magnetic stripe, contact magnetic stripe, and contactless smart card encoders. Encoding can be integrated into the print flow so that cards are issued and encoded in a single pass, improving efficiency and security for access control and tracking.
  • Q: What cards and materials are supported? A: The HDP5000 works with CR80 PVC or composite cards. It is well suited for PVC cards, composite cards, and compatible with overlay/lamination for added durability and anti‑wear properties, which helps extend card life in daily use.
  • Q: What about installation and software compatibility? A: The printer includes USB and Ethernet connectivity and supports common Windows drivers. It works with leading card design/encoding software such as CardStudio and ID Works. For non‑Windows environments, standard network deployment and driver support still apply, with typical limitations depending on the software ecosystem.
  • Q: How durable are HDP cards in everyday use? A: HDP cards are designed for high durability, thanks to the HDP transfer process and optional overlamination. They resist fading, abrasion, and daily handling, making them suitable for employee badges, visitor passes, and secure access credentials that see regular wear and exposure to the elements.

Very durable
Style: Two pack
These are great for my aggressive chewer. She still naws them down a bit after 6 months but not nearly as much as other toys. The size is perfect. It keeps her engaged in play. They do not squeek which is a plus. The only worry I have is if she throws it in the air it might break something breakable.

MUST BUY! For large Dogs Safe & Fun! 100lb Dutch shepherd loves this
Size: Large, Color: Blue, Size: Large, Color: Blue
I have 100 pound Dutch Shepherd who likes to chew and he goes through toys pretty quickly. This one he has been chewing on for hours and has not made a dent, not one!! he loves it. He bounces it. It’s very bouncy. I love that about it the engagement with it is great! noise level. It makes some noise. I’ve got wood floors so you can hear it bouncing and the squeak is pretty loud, which is fine with me. It doesn’t bother me. My pet really really enjoys this a lot. I think this is an amazing value for the money because I’ve spent more money on other toys and they fell apart within a day. I think it’s a safe toy because he’s not got a little hard plastic pieces that are coming off of it. It does not break apart very easily and the size is good. it fits in the palm of my hand so it’s pretty good size ball for him. It’s big enough. He cannot swallow it, but he can fit it in his mouth. I think the thing that I like the most about it and he enjoys is that when he drops it, it bounces and he can chase it. Pet enjoyment 10 out of 10 engagement 10 out of 10. I feel it’s very safe dog friendly absolutely must buy hands-down. You will not be disappointed. It’s made of a very strong. I would say rubber and it’s super easy to clean. Just toss it in the sink. Wash it off with soap and water rinse it. It’s good to go. I’m running to buy another one right now as we speak so just in case he loses it, he’ll have a backup.

Great, solid toy safe for my dog
Size: Large, Color: Blue, Size: Large, Color: Blue
This ball is great! My pit bull love toys, especially ones with squeakers, but she’s a power chewer and trashes them almost immediately. Since she’s got a history of swallowing foreign bodies, this means she’s rarely been able to have toys, and when she does get them, it’s short lived. She LOVES this ball and it’s already lasted multiple weeks with no signs of any damage, despite the fact she carries it everywhere and chews on it daily. We don’t have to worry about her safety with this toy, because it’s large and tough enough she can’t swallow anything. It hasn’t lost its squeak either despite all her tough love. She loves to play with it and we’re getting more of them asap so she has a backup if this one gets lost or eventually does break.

Truly indestructible
Size: Large, Color: Blue
They are not kidding, this ball is truly indestructible. I've gotten several for my dogs so they have plenty to share. Two of my dogs are beyond super chewers (bully breeds). One of the balls is missing the section that's glued into most of them, but the structure has still held up. And my dogs LOVE them.

Tough STINKY ball
Size: Large, Color: Red
This ball is the only one I've found that my dog can not destroy in seconds. He can chew on it for a few weeks before he works a hole in it. That's the good part. The bad side is the horrible smell! It doesn't seem to bother him, but it is horrible to my nose. It is so awful that I tried soaking it and dish soap and vinegar water overnight to see if I could make it go away. It was a little bit better but still stunk. Anybody got other suggestions on what could make the smell go away?
