Heritage Audio MOTORCITY EQ Single-Channel Passive EqualizerIf you're looking for a hardware passive equalizer with more mystic than the Pultec and a punchy, sweet, and proven retro sound, consider the Heritage Audio MOTORCITY EQualizer, a single channel passive EQ modelled on a famed Motown unit. Modelled might be the wrong word: this is an authentic recreation, with components matching to a tolerance of 1% with the original. Previously, only a select few had access to this privately made equalizer.
If you're looking for a hardware passive equalizer with more mystic than the Pultec and a punchy, sweet, and proven retro sound, consider the Heritage Audio MOTORCITY EQualizer, a single-channel passive EQ modelled on a famed Motown unit. Modelled might be the wrong word: this is an authentic recreation, with components matching to a tolerance of 1% with the original.
Previously, only a select few had access to this privately made equalizer. Basically, Michael Brauer—and that's it. But now, you too can have the lustrous, punchy sound of this seven-band passive equalizer, using the same graphical layout and stepped bakelite knobs that helped shape the sound of so many classic American hits.
History and Recreation
- Recreated from Motown units owned by eight-time Grammy winning producer and mixing engineer Michael Brauer, Heritage Audio left no stone unturned in recreating the unmistakably huge, punchy, and warm sound that makes this EQ as classic as the hits it helped create. With a 10-gauge hand-brushed aluminum face plate, historically accurate control layout, and custom-molded bakelite knobs, the MOTORCITY EQualizer looks the part. More importantly, the passive equalization circuit is identical to the original design. The MOTORCITY EQualizer is specifically designed to rival the arguably more famous Pultec EQ.
- It was no simple task to make a 100% accurate reincarnation. Peter Rodriguez and his team from Heritage Audio worked for weeks with their friends at Black Lion Audio. Seth Berman from Black Lion Audio's NY facility took the lead in getting the info together for Heritage to make the unit.
- Heritage Audio recreated the exceptionally tight mil-spec 1960's tone capacitors and inductors from scratch. They built them with exact matches in materials, values, and tolerances.
