19th century Large Greek Olive Oil Pot -

This 19th-century Greek olive oil pot is a stunning piece of antique Mediterranean craftsmanship from the Peloponnese region of Greece. Featuring a classic beehive ribbed design, it is a quintessential example of the artistry and practicality that defined Greek pottery in the mid-1800s.

Handcrafted in Greece, Circa 1860

This authentic 19th-century Greek olive oil pot was meticulously handmade from terracotta clay, reflecting the timeless traditions of Greek artisans. The pot is adorned with the typical handcrafted ribbed Nekuma decoration that embellishes its rounded bodice, adding both texture and historical significance. Its design demonstrates the fusion of form and function, as the ribbing adds visual interest and strengthens the pot for daily use.

The rolled rim at the top, accented by a subtle colour glaze finish, elevates its aesthetic appeal while preserving its rustic charm. This glaze provides a smooth transition between its utilitarian purpose and its decorative potential, making it a perfect centrepiece for antique collections or garden displays.

🔎 Provenance Story

This monumental olive oil pot came to us from an estate near Kalamata in the Peloponnese, a region steeped in olive-growing history. We acquired it directly from a family who had held the piece for generations — it once stood at the entrance to their hillside orchard, half-buried in stone and surrounded by ancient olive trees.

Dating to around 1860, the pot was hand-thrown using traditional terracotta techniques and finished with the signature beehive ribbing known locally as nekuma — a functional detail designed to fortify the structure and aid in grip during transport. The soft glaze around the rim, faded from decades of sun and sea air, hints at its life near the coast, where such jars were used to store and cool olive oil in shaded storage rooms.

What we love about this piece is its scale, its quiet authority, and its visible story. The wear is honest—earned. It wasn't made for show, but it has become a sculpture in its own right. Whether you place it in a garden or interior space, you're not just styling — you're preserving a fragment of Mediterranean rural life.

Very comfortable
Color: Grey
I’m not sure if I am just transitioning from a very uncomfortable office chair, but this one is extremely comfortable. Very good dynamic lumbar support that reminds you that it’s there. Only cons would be a low back (I am 6’5”) but I’m not laying my head back anyways. Also the seat length is a touch short for me but standard size really. Great bang for buck with an open box deal. Easy to assemble. TBD on durability.

BUY this chair!!!!!
Color: Cream
After using this chair for about a month, I can confidently say that it's one of the most comfortable office chairs I've sat in for an extended period of time. Being in school and studying 8+ hours a day at my desk would normally make my back hurt in any other chair. Fortunately, after using this chair all day I have very very minimal back pain, if any at all (definitely due to previous injuries). The cushion on the back of the chair is extremely supportive and comfortable over all. Cannot say enough good things about this chair!!!! Definitely worth the price and easy to put together.

Good quality
Color: Grey
It was easy to put together. Material feels durable. Only downside is that it doesn't tilt lock and the arm rest height isn't adjustable (though it can be folded up). I'm 4'11" and the back is the perfect height for me with great neck and lumbar support. My feet kinda dangle but I use a foot rest so it's not a big deal. My boyfriend who's 5'10" says it's comfy but the back could be taller.

Perfect chair!
Color: Cream
I love this chair! Was hesitant to buy due to the price being a bit more than I wanted to spend, but I work from home and have terrible posture from sitting at my desk all day, so I needed something that would be conducive to helping me sit up properly. I put the chair together myself, it was heavy but overall pretty easy to do. The tools provided worked great and the directions were clear. Aesthetically, it’s a lovely neutral color and everyone who has seen it so far has complimented me and on how nice it is and how comfortable it looks — Indeed it’s a very expensive looking chair. The first time I sat on it I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it….maybe something about the lumbar support seeming to protrude too much? At any rate, I gave it a couple of days and I absolutely LOVE it. I can already feel my posture improving, no backaches and I’m perfectly comfortable all day long. I’ve had it for a couple weeks now and couldn’t be happier. It seems to be very well made, so I’m confident it will last a very long time and be worth the price. I HIGHLY recommend this chair!

UPDATE: DEFECTIVE… it was a Great chair... a bit short for tall people!
Color: Cream, Color: Cream
I purchased this chair four years ago and really liked it. However, when it was damaged during a move, I attempted to replace it. Unfortunately, the replacement chair had a construction issue that had been repeatedly mentioned in numerous comments spanning over a year at least. This defect prevents the chair from being completely assembled, rendering it unusable (screw holes don’t line up). Amazon has failed to address this issue by removing these defective chairs from its inventory. You won’t be aware of this problem until you’ve almost completed assembling the chair. At that point, you’ll have to disassemble it, rebox it, and return the box to UPS. This is an incredibly inconvenient process, and Amazon must take immediate action to rectify this issue before anyone considers purchasing this chair again. Old review from 2023: Based on someone else's review, it would seem that this chair is perfect for average-height people but less great for those of us who are a bit tall or (according to her) a bit short. I'm 5'9 with most of my height in my legs. I like a chair to be tall enough that my legs can be straight to the floor from my knees to my feet and still have support under my knees. This chair is too short for that, even at it's highest setting, but it can be fixed with a simple replacement of the gas lift cylinder for a mere $20 (search for gas lift cylinder on Amazon). And the extra $20 is worth it because other than that one issue, this chair is great. My first experience with this chair was at work when the firm replaced all of our desk chairs. I loved it so much that I bought it for myself when I went into private practice. The lumbar support hits in just the right spot and moves with your body as you lean in and out. I love the cream color, and the seat is padded nicely. I especially love the liftable arms. I sit at my desk for 8+ hours straight 5-6 days a week, and I never have body pain-- Granted, I am only 36, but I have definitely experienced this with other office chairs that claimed to be "ergonomic". With a simple lift cylinder replacement and a movable standing desk (which I never actually stand at), I can finally sit at my desk without my knees hitting the underside of the desk or my legs having to be extended out to have support under my knees. These two things mean that I don't slump at my desk anymore, and my neck and back thank me! :)
