Product Overview 

Diatomic catalysts are catalysts that contain two metal atoms as active centres. The two metal atoms in a diatomic catalyst can present different coordination environments and interaction modes. They may be closely aligned next to each other, or they may be spaced apart and interact with each other through the mediation of a carrier. This unique structure endows diatomic catalysts with different properties from those of conventional nanocatalysts. Compared with monoatomic catalysts, dual atom catalysts provide a more diversified combination of active sites, which can be adapted to more complex reaction requirements. In addition, synergistic interactions between the two metal atoms can be generated, which can jointly regulate the adsorption and activation of the reaction intermediates, thus optimising the reaction pathway and lowering the reaction barrier to increase the efficiency of the reaction. The dual atom catalysts provided by CEFOND are produced by pyrolysis of nitrogen-containing carbon organics (e.g. PVP) at high temperatures to obtain an amorphous nitrogen-doped carbon carrier, with the metal atoms using nitrates or chlorides as precursors.

Product Features

 

High activity: Due to the high dispersion of metal atoms on the carrier, each metal atom can become an active centre, thus increasing the activity of the catalyst. 

High selectivity: the regulation of reaction selectivity can be achieved by controlling the coordination environment of the metal atoms and the nature of the carrier. 

High stability: the strong interaction between the metal atoms and the carrier can improve the stability of the catalyst. 


Application Fields

Energy: Single-atom catalysts can be used to improve the efficiency of the oxygen reduction reaction in fuel cells, thereby enhancing the performance of the cells. It can also be used in electrolysis of water to produce hydrogen to effectively promote hydrogen precipitation reaction, reduce the reaction overpotential, and improve the efficiency of hydrogen production. 

Environmental protection: monatomic catalysts can be used to degrade organic pollutants. In wastewater treatment, iron monatomic catalysts can be used to catalyse the degradation of organic pollutants such as phenols and dyes.

 

Chemical production: monatomic catalysts help to achieve the hydroconversion of nitrogen under mild conditions and improve the reaction rate and selectivity of ammonia synthesis. 

Petrochemicals: monatomic catalysts can effectively remove sulphur compounds from petroleum products and reduce the sulphur content of oil. 

Fine Chemicals: Metal monatomic catalysts can catalyse specific organic reactions for the synthesis of drug molecules, improving reaction selectivity and yield.
