Mid-Century Symphony drop leaf dining table by Beithcraft, Scotland, 1960

A beautifully designed mid-century teak drop-leaf dining table designed by Val Rossi for Beithcraft Furniture in Scotland in 1960, part of their highly collectable Symphony range.  — a classic example of British mid-century craftsmanship with both elegance and practicality at its core.

The table features two hinged leaves that extend smoothly, supported by sculptural gateleg frames forming a distinctive tripod-style base when opened — a hallmark of Beithcraft’s thoughtful design and engineering. The gently rounded top, with its central fixed section, showcases a warm teak grain and soft edges that sit comfortably within both modern and period interiors.

Compact and space-saving when folded, yet offering a generous dining surface when fully extended, this is an ideal piece for smaller interiors, apartments, or flexible living spaces where adaptability matters.

Condition

Presented in excellent restored condition, the table has been carefully cleaned and revived, enhancing the natural warmth and character of the teak. Minor age-related wear is consistent with its period.

Why We Like It

A really well-balanced piece — sculptural without being over-designed, practical without losing elegance. These Beithcraft tables are getting harder to find in this condition, especially with such a clean, honest look.

Beithcraft dining tables were made in Beith, Ayrshire, Scotland. Renowned for high-quality mid-century modern teak furniture, Beithcraft operated as a major Scottish furniture manufacturer from 1845 until the factory closed in 1983. They were recognised as a notable British maker, often producing furniture in the 1960s.

Key Details About Beithcraft Production:

Location: The company was based in Beith, a town that was a centre of excellence for furniture manufacturing in Scotland.
  • Origin: The manufacturing tradition in Beith began in 1845, with Beithcraft specifically known for high-quality, often teak, designs.
  • Time Period: Their notable pieces, including dining tables and sideboards, were predominantly produced during the mid-20th century (1950s–1970s).

Funny and not too harsh
Format: Hardcover
This is a funny little book that even most religious people should be able to enjoy. It doesn't go too far in poking fun. A highlight is the peek inside Flanders' head where one can inspect the varioius compartments of his mind. --Guy P.
